As headlines often dictate, Hollywood marriages typically do not have a very long shelf life due to the stress of fame, but a few marriages do hold strong for some celebrity couples. Recently, actress Marcia Gay Harden, who won an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in the movie "Pollock" and a Tony Award for "God of Carnage," filed for divorce from her husband. The two have been married for the last 15 years and are parents to three young children.
The 53-year-old actress is asking to keep their divorce proceedings private because of their children. The two have a 13-year-old daughter and 7-year-old twins. At this point it is uncertain as to what kind of child custody arrangement Harden and her husband will seek in the divorce.
Another issue the two will have to consider is asset division. In high-asset divorces there are sometimes numerous properties and assets that need to be equitably divided, such as expensive cars, homes and businesses. Although the process can sometimes be stressful, representation for both sides can often come to a conclusion amicably that works well for all parties involved.
Although Illinois is an equitable division state, this does not necessarily mean the assets will be divided evenly. Equitable refers to the court taking into consideration the different factors that make up a marriage, such as work experience, contributions to the marriage, educational background and health. These types of factors can also be important when it comes to setting alimony arrangements and child support payments.
